Community Members Share Feedback with PCSD at Listening Circles

Pittsford Central School District hosted Parent/Guardian Listening Circles, facilitated by Partners in Restorative Initiatives (PIRI) and the Children’s Institute, on October 13, 2021, at Calkins Road Middle School. The format of “Listening Circles” provided small group opportunities to connect and share feedback with the District related to racial incidents in recent weeks, the continued work of dismantling racism in our schools and creating a more equitable school environment.

The District is working with the facilitators at PIRI and the Children’s Institute to review feedback and notes shared by community members in order to determine next steps, which include assessing the extent to which the feedback is aligned with PCSD’s equity policy, adjusting PCSD’s equity goals as necessary and identifying areas of priority.

The District will be planning similar events in the future in order to carry on these important conversations related to race and equity given the significant feedback from event participants who shared they appreciated the opportunity to discuss their thoughts and hear from others in this setting.

Partners in Restorative Initiatives is the region’s leader in using restorative practices to build relationships, strengthen communities, and repair harm. Its work incorporates practices of mindfulness, nonviolent communication, trauma-responsiveness, and social justice.

The Children’s Institute partners with community agencies and schools to strengthen the social and emotional health of children in a variety of ways.
