PCSD Implementing Test to Stay Strategy to Keep Students in Class

Dear PCSD Parents/Guardians and Staff:

In an effort to support students and provide them with access to learning, the Pittsford Central School District, in collaboration with Monroe County Department of Public Health (MCDPH), will be participating in Test to Stay (TTS) for unvaccinated, quarantined school-age children, effective today, Wednesday, December 1, 2021.

In Monroe County, TTS is defined as follows:

Students who are unvaccinated against COVID-19 and were exposed to COVID-19 may only attend instructional/academic periods during the regular school day, even while under mandatory quarantine orders, if:

  • The student is symptom free
  • The school has received parent/guardian consent for the student to undergo daily testing
  • The student tests negative before the start of each school day for seven (7) consecutive days after exposure

For families to participate in TTS, the following will need to occur:

  • The MCDPH will need to issue a quarantine order for your child, and it must be shared with your child’s school nurse
  • Parents/guardians will need to provide consent for daily rapid antigen testing at school, in writing (email, fax, letter), to the school nurse before testing can begin
  • Parents are strongly encouraged to drive their child to school on the first day of daily testing, then the student will be permitted to take school transportation to/from school
  • If the student tests negative and remains asymptomatic, they will continue the following process for seven (7) days –
    • Immediately upon arrival for each of the seven (7) days after exposure, the student must report to the school health office for daily testing (prior to going to the classroom)
      • Students who test negative will be permitted to report to their classroom
      • Students who test positive, or who have developed symptoms, must be picked up immediately per our regular procedures and their results will be reported to the MCDPH
    • The student must remain in quarantine at all other times outside the regular school day (participation in extracurricular and athletic team activities are not allowed)

Vaccinated students who have been exposed, but have no symptoms, can continue with in-person learning without daily testing.

Our priority and focus is on keeping our students healthy, safe and engaged in active learning. We are hopeful that the TTS strategy will benefit our students and school community. If you have any questions regarding TTS, please see the Test to Stay Q&A document that was created by the MCDPH on our website at 2021.11.30 REVISED TTS FAQ.pdf (pittsfordschools.org) or contact the District’s COVID-19 Liaison, Director of Student Services, Shana Cutaia at shana_cutaia@pittsford.monroe.edu. Thank you.
